Se utiliz\u00f3 terap\u00e9uticamente por primera vez en 1844 y en la actualidad tiene muchos usos dentales, pedi\u00e1tricos y obst\u00e9tricos (5). Aparte de sus usos m\u00e9dicos como anestesia disociativa, analg\u00e9sico o sedante, el \u00f3xido nitroso se utiliza como propulsor en la industria alimentaria y como \"potenciador de combustible\" en las carreras de coches. Las latas aromatizadas y sin aromatizar se venden f\u00e1cilmente en l\u00ednea a trav\u00e9s de Amazon, Walmart, etc., as\u00ed como en gasolineras, tiendas de comestibles, talleres de automoci\u00f3n y tiendas de suministros para restaurantes.<\/p>\n<p>El \u00f3xido nitroso a\u00fan no se considera una sustancia controlada seg\u00fan la legislaci\u00f3n federal. Sin embargo, estados como California y Luisiana han aprobado leyes para regular su venta y designarla sustancia controlada (3). La Ley de F\u00e1rmacos y Cosm\u00e9ticos de la FDA proh\u00edbe la distribuci\u00f3n y el uso intencionados de \u00f3xido nitroso para \"colocarse\". <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parents.com\/what-is-galaxy-gas-8714373#:~:text=Galaxy%20Gas%20is%20a%20company,cream%20chargers%20with%20nitrous%20oxide.\">(4)<\/a>. Muchos estados han declarado ilegal su venta a menores. Manhattan, un suburbio de Chicago en el condado de Will, prohibi\u00f3 totalmente su venta tras un aumento de las sobredosis relacionadas con el \u00f3xido nitroso y de los incidentes de conducci\u00f3n err\u00e1tica (3). La persona que experimenta estos s\u00edntomas puede tomar malas decisiones o no ser consciente de su entorno. Los s\u00edntomas f\u00edsicos pueden ser neurol\u00f3gicos, psicoactivos y cardiovasculares (1). Especialmente en personas con problemas card\u00edacos subyacentes, los cambios en la presi\u00f3n sangu\u00ednea y el ritmo card\u00edaco pueden causar una emergencia m\u00e9dica incluso en consumidores poco frecuentes. El consumo cr\u00f3nico puede causar anemia relacionada con la deficiencia de vitamina B12, p\u00e9rdida de memoria y neuropat\u00eda (5). Los mayores riesgos del uso de \u00f3xido nitroso est\u00e1n asociados a la privaci\u00f3n de ox\u00edgeno al cerebro, lo que puede provocar convulsiones, derrames cerebrales, coma, lesiones cerebrales y muerte.<\/p>\n<p>Ser consciente de las tendencias crecientes y de lo f\u00e1cilmente accesibles que son sustancias como el \u00f3xido nitroso ayuda a crear oportunidades de conversaci\u00f3n en casa y en la escuela.
