Every member of the Candor team has a special role in positively impacting children through their everyday efforts, regardless of whether they serve primarily in the classroom or the boardroom. The Full-Time Health Educator is part of a dynamic team of professionals committed to providing students with substance use prevention and sex education so that they are prepared to make informed decisions that positively impact their health. Educators are responsible for teaching engaging and interactive classes, effective communication with all staff, teachers, and other customers, and working in a fast-paced team environment.
Full-time Health Educators also contribute to program content, lead educator trainings, teach summer programs, and contribute to Candor’s presence as a thought leader by representing the organization at conferences and events and writing regular articles for the organization’s newsletter.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver substance use prevention and sex education programs (in-person/virtually) to students in grades 4-8 and adults
- Utilize best practices while teaching student and adult audiences
- Ensure program content and delivery is educational, engaging, and scientifically accurate
- Maintain expertise in health content, educational best practice, learning standards, and adolescent development
- Occasional non-traditional work hours required
- Extensive travel throughout the Chicagoland area is required; mileage reimbursement is provided
- Represent Candor Health Education across multiple platforms including local conferences, community events, and program-related inquiries, as needed
- Write articles for monthly Candor newsletter as assigned
- Participate in curriculum development, updates, and program pilots
- Lead program trainings for education team
- Teach summer programs when offered
- Submit weekly student attendance, educator, and business development notes
- Distribute marketing material to designated school contact(s) as needed
- Participate in monthly staff development trainings and team meetings
- Participate in peer observations to assist in training, ensure program fidelity, and shared learning opportunities
- Check and respond to emails regularly and keep work calendar updated
- Promote a positive and professional image when teaching and representing Candor Health Education
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing other duties as
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching health or related subjects (biology, human anatomy, social emotional learning, etc.)
- At least two years of experience classroom teaching or working with young people
- Professional experience teaching diverse learners highly regarded
- Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable access to a vehicle
- Routinely transport program supplies weighing up to 25 pounds to and within schools
- Solutions-oriented ability, initiative, and flexibility to accommodate unanticipated needs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (OneDrive, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Virtual Platforms (Zoom and Google Meet).
