The second program in our substance use prevention continuum, INFLUENCERS , students learn about the short and long-term risks associated with substance use, including alcohol, marijuana, and vaping, as well as the safe use of prescription medications and the potentially lethal dangers of taking a pill that did not come from a licensed pharmacy. The influencers and normalization of substance use is explored, including social media, song lyrics, and advertising.
These programs incorporate a comprehensive, blended learning approach to substance abuse prevention education. Tied to both SEL and Health Standards, our program structure includes an interactive e-learning lesson prior to the classroom visit from the Candor Health educators. The program is infused with games, videos, activities, discussions, and post activities to help assessments for teachers. Watch a short video and learn more:
Candor Health educator facilitates a classroom program that includes:
- analysis of a current song to review and understand lyrics and drug references
- exploring the relationship of traditional cigarettes and vaping and the marketing of vaping toward teens
- reviewing the concentration of THC levels in marijuana today versus year’s past
- developing a set of refusal strategies
- question and answer opportunities with a health educator
